Doors & Windows

This page doesn’t just show doors and windows, but also includes other work that would come into the category of “Exterior Joinery”.

We tend to make all our exterior Joinery in durable hardwoods, even if it’s going to be painted. (See our page on Timber Types.)

Over the years we have developed a “standard” profile and design for modern, double-glazed windows, and this has been used a great deal. Most people like the basic design and profile shapes. We can incorporate very appealing, slender, Georgian glazing bars, quite unlike the bulky pattern often seen in timber double glazing.

We are able to use this design in casement windows or in sash windows (either with spiral sash balances or with weights and pulleys), and in doors as well. All our frames are made and fitted with draught seal.

Our standard window sections include the use of multi-point locking espagnolettes. These allow the door or casement to be locked at three, four or five places by the action of just one handle, and the mechanism is very unobtrusive, being buried as it is in the edge of the casement or door.

In the case of casement windows this can also allow a “night vent” facility, by which windows can be left open by about 10mm and then locked.

Shaped work (e.g. windows with arched tops), does tend to be much more expensive but we can do it for you, and welcome the opportunity to quote. Our CNC router is an incredibly useful tool for this difficult and demanding type of joinery.
